Substance Use Treatment in Pregnancy

Project CARA: Care that Advocates Respect/Resilience/Recovery for All

Thank you for visiting the Project CARA website. Perhaps you are interested in learning more about pregnancy and substance use disorders, or you would like to explore our services, or you arrived here by accident—whatever the reason, we’re glad you are here!

Project CARA, housed at MAHEC Ob/Gyn Specialists, has supported nearly 1,000 pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders since 2014. MAHEC first offered integrated substance use treatment services with obstetrical visits in the late 1990s. Our Project CARA team has built on this early foundation to provide comprehensive substance use care using current evidence-based practices.

If you are pregnant, we understand that coming to a medical office can be stressful. We know that being asked to share about substance use in pregnancy may feel like a set up for judgment and shame. Having to tell your story over and over again? Not helpful. Which is why our dedicated team is committed to providing a judgment-free environment where you can feel safe and supported.

Whether your last substance use was 5 years ago or 5 minutes ago, you are welcome to get care here. Our goal is to help you access the care you need when and where you need it.

If you are a referring professional, we look forward to partnering with you. We encourage you to use our online referral system or referral form to help your client or patient access our trauma-informed perinatal services.

Warmly,

Melinda Ramage, FNP-BC, CARN-AP
Medical Director
