Safe Kids WNC, led by MAHEC, is committed to reducing accidental injury among children in Western North Carolina. Established in 1994, Safe Kids WNC is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, which consists of more than 400 coalitions in the United States to reduce accidental injury.

Accidental injury is a leading cause of death for children under age 14, and many caregivers don’t realize that accidental injuries are responsible for more deaths and disabilities to children than all childhood diseases combined. 90% of accidental injuries can be prevented.

Through community action, public awareness, education, technology and public policy initiatives, state and local programs are creating safer homes and communities for children. Safe Kids WNC brings together people that are interested in the wellbeing of children. Our local partners include: firefighters, paramedics, medical professionals, educators, law enforcement, and business leaders.
