AppFamily Medicine

AppFamily Medicine is the home of our residency's continuity practice and the place where residents learn what it means to be someone's family physician. Here, residents care for patients across the lifespan, from prenatal care and newborn visits to chronic disease management and end-of-life care. Over three years, they build lasting relationships with patients and families while learning to navigate the complexities of outpatient medicine.

Our practice emphasizes comprehensive care, including the treatment of substance use disorders, hepatitis C management, and a wide range of office-based procedures: circumcisions, skin procedures, vasectomies, long-acting reversible contraception, endometrial biopsies, joint injections, and osteopathic manipulation.

AppFamily Medicine is where the breadth of family medicine meets the depth of relationships—where residents learn not just to treat illness, but to know and care for the people who trust them with their health.

Watauga Medical Center

Watauga Medical Center is a 117-bed regional hospital in Boone, NC, and our primary hospital training site. As the only residency program based here, our residents have broad access to clinical experiences and meaningful participation in patient care. They work across adult inpatient medicine, obstetrics, newborn and pediatric care, emergency medicine, and specialty services.

The hospital is large enough to offer diverse, complex clinical care and small enough for residents to know the people they work alongside. Close faculty engagement and continuity between inpatient and outpatient settings help residents see the full story of a patient’s care—not just a single encounter.

Mission Children’s Hospital

Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville, NC, is where residents travel for a four-week inpatient pediatrics rotation during intern year as well as a two-week pediatric emergency medicine rotation during their third year. These experiences deepen pediatric assessment and management skills, and complement the care of children and newborns in our home community. Housing is provided during the Asheville rotations.
