This module will discuss how to effectively plan SUD treatment options for individualized patients. It will also help educate participants on when and how to refer to higher levels of care, and how to follow up with patients for chronic pain and SUD. This will include understanding of stigma and bias faced by patients with OUD and how to effectively treat patients with compassion and non-judgment. Lastly, it will discuss the legal and ethical issues surrounding SUD care including the NC STOP Act, ADA protections for people with SUD, federal privacy laws (42 CFR), and naloxone prescribing.

This training module is part of a training suite that has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from the DEA and SAMHSA for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. This requirement applies to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, dentists, and other practitioners that prescribe controlled substances who are applying for or renewing their DEA license after June 27, 2023.
