With the increasing chronicity of patient populations being cared for in the primary care environment and the advent of value-based reimbursement, there is a need to integrate RNs into the primary care team to support positive patient outcomes. RNs bring a unique and holistic approach to care both within and outside the clinic walls. However, most nursing education programs do not focus on nursing practice in the primary care environment, and many of these roles are still emerging.

This course is the first in a series of continuing education offerings specifically targeted for registered nurses interested in or engaged in nursing practice in the primary care setting. The Essentials of Primary Care Nursing I module series includes 16 modules which will introduce the learner to various roles for RNs in the primary care setting and discuss opportunities for RNs to practice at their fully licensed scope of practice. These modules also provide valuable information on how RNs can apply their nursing skills to support patient care coordination and care management needs to promote positive patient and practice outcomes. You will also learn about the basics of healthcare financing and reimbursement, which is important content for all nurses to know.
