Concepts in Prevention and Management of Dental Implant Complications: Why and When to Delay Implant Placement
Feb 7, 2025 Canceled Dentistry
Description
This 3-hour lecture/discussion-based webinar will explore the facets of dental implant restorative and biologic complications.
According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, dental implants have increasingly become the preferred treatment for people who have tooth loss. More than 3 million implants were placed in the United States in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of those 3 million implants placed in 2019, 99.4% are expected to succeed, and 0.6 % or 18,000 will ail or fail immediately by 2024.
Statistically, if your practice places 200 implants a year, one will fail. However, the long-term complications (known as peri-implantitis) are much less known, yet they will induce bone and implant loss and their prevalence is significant with 10 to 50% of implants patients being diagnosed. Peri-implantitis is more aggressive than periodontitis and should be considered when planning, executing and monitoring implant cases. Based on this novel knowledge we will finally introduce the concept of Delaying Implant Placement.
