Best Practices for Breastfeeding Friendly Offices and Clinics: How to Integrate Appropriate Lactation Support into Patient Visits

Description

As more families choose to chest/breastfeed their infant, they seek a healthcare provider who is supportive of their feeding choice and will provide evidence-based, high-quality support. This presentation will delve into recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine on being a breastfeeding-friendly practice. Information will be provided on ways to integrate these recommendations into clinic flow and meet the patient needs for evidence-based lactation care. The learner should be prepared to commit 2 hours to complete the course, including watching the taped live webinar, reviewing the professional recommendations and completing the post-test. The learner will have 45 days from the date of registration to complete the course after which the course materials will no longer be available.

Hot Topics in Breastfeeding is a lactation education series for local WIC agencies, health departments, hospitals and healthcare professionals offered via Webex once a quarter. Each session will focus on a topic related to lactation management and care of the chest/breastfeeding dyad. This series is funded by and hosted by the Region I WIC LATCH (Lactation Area Training Center for Health) and will feature guest speakers on various topics related to lactation.
