In this 1-hour interactive, virtual module, Carriedelle Fusco, FNP, and Stephen Wyatt, DO, will describe common medical and mental health conditions which are associated with substance use disorders. Specifically, this will include prevalence of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, pain and substance use disorders and polysubstance use. It will provide a basic overview of and treatment options for substance induced psychosis, Hepatitis C and HIV, and sleep dysfunction. Lastly, it will touch on important considerations when providing evidence-based, harm-reduction centered, trauma-informed care for substance use disorders and comorbid conditions.

This training module is part of a training suite that has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from the DEA and SAMHSA for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. This requirement applies to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, dentists, and other practitioners that prescribe controlled substances who are applying for or renewing their DEA license after June 27, 2023.

Objectives

check Apply understanding of comorbid mental health disorders, pain, and substance use disorders and how to treat them
check Acknowledge how to talk to patients about and treat HIV and Hepatitis C
check Examine how social determinants of health impact mental health, chronic pain, and substance use disorders
check Demonstrate understanding of sleep dysfunction and other common comorbidities among patients with SUDs and treatment options

Cancellation Policy

MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.

Unless otherwise noted in course materials, the following cancellation policy applies to all programs:

  • Cancellations must be in writing (fax, email, or mail).
  • Cancellations received more than 2 weeks prior to the event will receive 100% refund.
  • Cancellations received between two weeks and two full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than two full business days prior to the event.
  • No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
  • Transfers/substitute(s) are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program).
