In this 1-hour interactive, virtual module, Carriedelle Fusco, a family nurse practitioner, will describe various components of SUD care, specifically urine drug screens, controlled substance agreements, using the prescription drug monitoring program, and ordering labs for patients with substance use disorders during diagnosis and treatment. She will provide an understanding of these important aspects of SUD care to help the audience feel more comfortable treating substance use disorders in primary care clinics.

This training module is part of a training suite that has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from the DEA and SAMHSA for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. This requirement applies to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, dentists, and other practitioners that prescribe controlled substances who are applying for or renewing their DEA license after June 27, 2023.

Objectives

• Apply understanding of how to use Urine Drug Screens as a tool in treating patients with substance use disorders
• Demonstrate understanding of controlled substance agreements and prescription drug monitoring programs and how to use them in substance use disorder care
• Demonstrate comfort ordering labs for patients being diagnosed and treated for substance use disorders
