Did you know that hundreds of thousands of patients have been exposed to infection from mistakes made with injectable medication and syringe use in the United States, according to research by the CDC? Do you want to refresh your injection skills? If so, this course is for you! This class will cover intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SQ), and intradermal (ID) injections. We will review site selection, needle length, common injectable medications, medication preparation and complications associated with injections. We will then practice injections via simulation stations and you will be checked off on your skills by an instructor.
Target Audience
RNs, LPNs, CNAs, CMAs, Pharmacists, PAs, NPs, First Responders, and anyone else administering injections
Objectives
- Describe the difference in SQ, IM, and Intradermal injections
- Identify the correct supplies needed for injections
- List the elements of successful injection administration
- Recognize complications of injections, the causes, and how to prevent them
- Learn how to properly prepare an injectable medication
- Review the NC Board of Nursing Rules for Delegation to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP)
- Practice injections on task trainers with guidence from instructors
- Locate the correct anatomical landmarks for injection placement
