Diagnosing Autism: Using CARS-2 to Diagnose ASD

Description

This three-part series of workshops is for professionals involved with diagnosis and assessment of persons perceived to have autism. The workshop will use a case-oriented style, covering how to use the CARS-2 assessment instruments in the diagnosis of autism. The first two sessions will include case studies where the participants will practice scoring using the CARS-2 High Functioning Version and then the CARS-2 Standard Version. The third session in the series will review the factors that help with differential diagnoses. Participants can register for the 4-hour sessions individually or as a package.

A CARS-2 Rating Booklet for Sessions One and Two is required.
Registration fees include the Booklet (HF and/or ST) and shipping costs.
Every effort will be made to deliver these materials prior to the course.

Target Audience

This series is intended for psychologists and other professionals who are involved with the diagnosis and assessment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Objectives

At the completion of training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how to use and score the CARS Second Edition-High Functioning (CARS2-HF) assessment tool
  • Describe how to use and score the CARS Second Edition-Standard (CARS2-ST) assessment tool
  • State the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Utilize a structured interview to gather developmental information needed as a part of an ASD evaluation
  • Identify the similarities and differences between ASD and the most common differential developmental and mental health diagnoses
