Project ECHO® is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that revolutionizes nursing education to provide convenient best-practice specialty nursing care. ECHO is led by an expert or team that uses multi-point videoconferencing to conduct virtual learning sessions. Today's nursing executives and managers are expected to maintain competency in their role. Certification, as a Nurse Executive or Nurse Executive-Advanced, is one way to assure an understanding of management theory and its practical applications. This ECHO will offer practical applications, solid strategies, and an overview of the key issues that will be tested in these exams.

Session 7: Fundamentals of Finance and the Budget Process
Session 8: Legal and Ethical Issues; Unionization

Objectives
- Session 1: Identify leadership concepts, principles and different styles appropriate to the situation
- Session 1: Examine various models of nursing management and decision making
- Session 2: Identify systems theory, organizational models, and governance
- Session 2: Review strategic planning, alignment with mission and vision
- Session 3: Identify laws, regulations, accrediting bodies pertaining to the healthcare work environment
- Session 3: Recognize the Human Resource Management issues that need to be addressed to create an efficient, effective and satisfying work environment
- Session 4: Recognize the role nurse leaders play to manage organizational change
- Session 4: Examine how to use a CQI team approach to problem-solve by critically assessing processes, functions and delivery of diverse solutions
- Session 5: Identify the strategic goal nursing leaders have in transferring research to outcomes
- Session 5: Examine how nursing informatics competencies are necessary to augment traditional executive skills and support transformational outcomes of safe, integrated, high-quality care delivery
- Session 6: Examine the value of healthcare financial management to the management functions and the changing face of healthcare
- Session 6: Identify three issues that have impacted healthcare organizations' reimbursement
- Session 7: Identify the different ways financial management impacts the nurse executive
- Session 7: Describe three budget types and three budget approaches/systems
- Session 8: Identify three ethical principles that help with decision making
- Session 8: Describe three reasons why nurses join unions
