In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, continued travel restrictions and the fact that this program contains "hands-on education," MAHEC has decided to postpone this event to protect the safety and well-being of all involved. MAHEC hopes to reschedule this event in the fall.
Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) is a contemporary modification of the ancient art of acupuncture. Developed in the aftermath of 9/11 by an Air Force radiation oncologist turned medical acupuncturist, it is a simple, but elegant form of auricular acupuncture that can be used to treat acute or chronic pain. During this 3.75 hour, hands-on session, participants will learn how to apply this technique to a wide range of patients, providing fast, effective pain relief without the risks of drug to drug interactions or narcotic analgesia.
BFA is rapid, safe, and easy to learn. The technique involves learning how to place specialized acupuncture needles at up to 5 specific points on one or both of patients' external ears as a means of quickly alleviating their pain. The course includes practice on silicone ears as well as supervised practice with real patients with real pain. The BFA technique is considered within the scope of practice of physicians, physician assistants, certified acupuncturists and chiropractors who are licensed and privileged in North Carolina. Through the diversity of healthcare professionals participating in BFA, this course seeks to expand the team-based care model and reduce siloed treatment for patients experiencing pain.
MAHEC engages in evaluation activities to better understand the impact of our programs. By registering for this course, you agree that we may use your personal information in evaluative research regarding this program. Any reports published will be de-identified and reported in aggregate format.
