In recognition for specific education on opioid use disorder (OUD) and innovative treatment for chronic and/or acute pain, this new workshop will provide updated information on evidenced-based treatment modalities including non-opioid alternatives to pain management. Medical providers will gain tools to reduce the risk of opioid overdose, treat pain safely and the skills to screen and treat substance use disorders (SUDs) in a patient-centered way. This program was designed to satisfy, in full, the North Carolina Medical Board's CME requirement for controlled substance prescribers. Per NCAC rules: As of July 1, 2017 all physicians (other than residents), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, and dentists who prescribe controlled substances must satisfy the controlled-substance prescribing CE requirements as set forth by their licensing boards; requirements vary by discipline and board. This program has been approved by the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board as meeting the CE requirement on the abuse of controlled substances for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.
