Description
This lecture and lab-based course will focus on dental care for persons with intellectual and/or development disabilities (I/DD). Morning didactic sessions will be enhanced by afternoon intake/assessment sessions with patients who have I/DD, from across the age span. This educational activity is jointly provided with the NC DHHS Division of Public Health, Oral Health Section.

Objectives
Upon completion of this lecture and lab-based course, the participant will be able to:
- Interact comfortably with persons who have I/DD and their families
- Utilize appropriate communication skills with persons who have I/DD and their families
- Perform proper patient positioning and transfers to do a basic dental intake and oral assessment/examination of a person with I/DD
- Implement developmentally appropriate dental education with children and adults with I/DD
- Implement workflow and practice management to best support persons with I/DD
- Cite optimal reimbursement and coding approaches for care of persons with I/DD
