MAHEC's Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, in joint providership with UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC's Department of Continuing Professional Development, is pleased to present this invitational CE and social event.
Join us for an optional social event (dinner & drinks) at Cambria Hotel & Suites -Downtown Asheville on Thursday, May 2, 2019.
Network with your colleagues on Friday, May 3rd during a full-day of lecture, hands-on skill stations and continuing education credit at the Simulation Center on MAHEC's Mary C. Nesbitt Biltmore Campus in Asheville.
Separate of the CE activity is an optional opportunity to have a pair of custom orthotics made by Glenn Cumberland, at cost, and payable outside of the educational event.
Following Friday's formal CE, there will be an optional "Beer with Bert" social at a local Asheville brewery. Details will be provided at the conclusion of Friday's CE event.

Target Audience
Regional Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty, Fellows, Residents and related Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists
Objectives
Upon completion of this lecture, discussion and lab-based educational activity, the participant will be able to:
- Identify the utility of orthotics in preventing acute and chronic injuries in runners
- Diagnose and discuss the basic approach to treating common running injuries of the foot, ankle, knee and general lower extremity, utilizing musculoskeletal ultrasound
- Cite the role of gait analysis and foot wear in prevention of common running injuries
- Discuss the etiology, workup, and treatment of common and "do-not-miss" running injuries
- Relate the importance of hydration and nutrition principles relevant to distance runners
