19IDSIM028 - Basic Life Support in Obstetrics - BLSO®

Description

Registration is now closed.
This course is also available on May 23, 2019.

In some rural communities, a combination of closed maternity wards and fewer physicians providing maternity care means that women have to travel farther distances to receive prenatal care and deliver their baby. Women who travel longer distances to give birth increase their risks, which can lead to poorer health for them and their babies. In addition, the rate of premature births is increasing across the country. When normal and emergency pre-hospital obstetric care needs arise, first responders and emergency personnel can respond effectively with the knowledge and confidence they gain as a result of the BLSO® curriculum. BLSO® is an evidence-based, hands-on training program that helps you manage normal labor and perinatal emergencies while promoting an environment of teamwork. Adapted from the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) Program, this one-day course focuses on the practical management of normal deliveries and common obstetric emergencies.

This course is also available on May 23, 2019.

COURSE PRE-WORK / MANUAL
One month in advance of the course date, learners will be provided an email link to the online pre-test, which must be completed prior to the start of the course. Registrants are required to score at least 80% and provide the exam summary page to the MAHEC Program Coordinator before attending the BLSO® Provider Course. Additionally, there will be instructions on how to instantly download and print the BLSO® Provider Manual to read/review prior to the course. Access to this manual is included in the registration fee. All participants are expected to bring the course manual to class.

In order to accommodate the above requirements and process your registration in a timely manner, registration for this course will close at noon on Tuesday, March 13th.

AFTER THE COURSE
After the course is complete, the Course Sponsor is responsible for providing post-course documentation to the BLSO® Program within 2 weeks. After the Course Sponsor has submitted all required post-course documentation, learners will be emailed letters of participation by the AAFP. For those who successfully complete all course requirements, wallet cards will also be included at the bottom of the emailed letter of participation.
