We are excited to introduce the CIHA-MAHEC Internal Medicine Rural and Tribal Health Track, designed for those who desire enhanced training working in rural areas and with historically marginalized populations. This unique track offers a robust and comprehensive training experience that prepares residents to excel in both foundational internal medicine and specialized rural and tribal health care.
This program is designed to ensure a strong foundation in internal medicine through the core curriculum of the MAHEC Internal Medicine Residency Program. Over three years of training, the focus shifts to developing expertise in rural health, with immersive training at Cherokee and other rural sites. Throughout the program, you will become an integral member of the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority, building and managing your own patient panel in a continuity clinic, gaining invaluable primary care experience.
Our program is supported by a team of dedicated preceptors, advisors, and mentors who are committed to your growth and success. You will benefit from integrated rotations alongside the MAHEC Internal Medicine categorical program, fostering collaboration and a broader learning experience. Additionally, you'll engage directly with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians, developing cultural awareness and humility that are essential for effective and compassionate care in diverse communities.
We are proud to offer a training environment that not only hones your clinical skills but also instills a deep sense of service and leadership. As part of this track, you'll be equipped to meet the unique challenges of rural medicine, making a lasting impact on the communities you serve.
Thank you for considering our program. We look forward to the possibility of welcoming you to our team and supporting you on your journey to becoming a well-rounded, community-focused internist.
Sincerely,
