The 7th Annual North Carolina Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology Symposium brings together clinicians, researchers, advocates, and community partners committed to advancing cancer care for adolescents and young adults. This year's theme emphasizes the vital role of community oncology outreach and engagement, with a focus on building meaningful connections between academic institutions and community-based providers.

Designed to inspire collaboration and innovation, the symposium will feature presentations, expert-led panels, and lived experience narratives addressing key challenges and opportunities across the AYA cancer care continuum:

  • Screening and Diagnostic Challenges & Opportunities
  • Treatment Challenges & Opportunities
  • Survivorship Challenges & Opportunities

Attendees will also engage in interactive breakout sessions that encourage deeper discussion and hands-on problem-solving, including strategies and resources for effective outreach.

Additional learning and networking opportunities include:

  • AYA 101 Workshop (7:45 AM – 8:30 AM): An optional session offering an overview of mental health, fertility, financial, social, and medical considerations unique to AYA patients.
  • Happy Hour (4:45 PM – 5:30 PM): An optional informal gathering immediately following the symposium, designed to foster community-building and networking.

This year's NC AYA Oncology Symposium will be held in collaboration with the AYACC Conference 2025, which will take place the day prior to the symposium at the same location. This partnership is designed to enrich the experience for attendees by expanding networking opportunities, boosting overall participation, and fostering a seamless continuum of learning for those interested in both events. check Deepen Understanding of AYA Cancer Care Across the Continuum: From diagnosis to survivorship, attendees will gain an increased awareness of how age-specific needs intersect with healthcare systems and will be able to describe the challenges and opportunities for providing care to AYAs
check Collaborate on Resource Development and Institutional Strategy: Participants will engage in group brainstorming and discussion around questions related to opportunities and challenges in AYA care across diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship
check Learn from Diverse Voices Across Academic, Community, and Patient Perspectives: Through keynote presentations, panels, and lived experience narratives, symposium participants will learn from voices from a range of backgrounds, including academic institutions, community oncology settings, and AYA survivors themselves

Cancellation Policy

MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.

Unless otherwise noted in course materials, the following cancellation policy applies to all programs:

  • Cancellations must be in writing (fax, email, or mail).
  • Cancellations received more than 2 weeks prior to the event will receive 100% refund.
  • Cancellations received between two weeks and two full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than two full business days prior to the event.
  • No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
  • Transfers/substitute(s) are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program).
