In this 1-hour interactive, virtual module, Dr. Susan McDowell will discuss tobacco use disorder and nicotine use trends in the United States. She will then describe electronic nicotine device systems (ENDS) and their rising popularity, as well as how to screen for tobacco use disorder and nicotine use disorder. Lastly, she will discuss the different pharmacological and behavioral health treatment options for tobacco use and nicotine use disorders. This in-depth overview will help primary care providers feel more comfortable understanding nicotine use and how to treat nicotine and tobacco use disorders in their clinics.

This training module is part of a training suite that has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from the DEA and SAMHSA for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. This requirement applies to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, dentists, and other practitioners that prescribe controlled substances who are applying for or renewing their DEA license after June 27, 2023.
