In the collective effort to improve the lives of individuals with opioid use disorder and reduce overdose death, MAHEC provides the Caring for Individuals with Opioid Use Disorder training in order to share best practices in the treatment of opioid use disorders and patient care. The program begins with a brief overview of the opioid overdose crisis on both a national and local level, and transcends into a discussion of the impacts of stigma and bias. Participants will learn how healthcare providers can address the bias and stigma associated with substance use disorders and the importance of using harm reduction strategies, such as naloxone distribution, in the treatment of patients with substance use disorders.
