The Latin population is here, strong and resilient, and growing with many contributions. As healthcare providers and community members, we can lessen the negative effects of implicit bias. There are health inequities and unequal treatment that can be minimized by educating providers with a true racial equity lens. Healthcare providers will gain a better understanding of how culture influences health-related communication and decision-making among Latin patients and their families. It is imperative when providing culturally responsive care to address implicit bias among healthcare providers. In addition to communication barriers, racial/ethnic-related obstacles to healthcare exist for the Latin population that can lead to health disparities/inequities. This webinar series will focus on increasing diversity knowledge and language justice communication skills. The goal of this Latin Health live webinar series is to create a space for conversation and awareness with healthcare providers and community-based organizations. Join us quarterly as we explore relevant topics with a short didactic followed by a deeper conversation with expert panelist during a Q&A segment.

MAHEC's Department of Continuing Professional Development is implementing a series of webinars and symposia that have a focus on health equity, diversity, and inclusion. Based on the North Carolina 2030 report, there are significant educational opportunities that highlight the disparities cited for different populations of patients we serve in Western North Carolina and beyond. Our goal is to provide meaningful educational experiences for providers across the country to learn and grow in the ways in which they provide care to patients from different backgrounds and ethnicities.
