Nursing home residents are especially vulnerable to SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) due to their age, their underlying frailty, and their communal living conditions. And nursing home staff who care for them are among the most needed and most at-risk essential workers. It is estimated that almost 56,000 nursing home residents and staff have died from COVID-19, representing more than one-quarter of the nation's known COVID-19 deaths. Supported by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Project ECHO is launching a Phase 2 National Nursing Home COVID-19 Action Network.
The AHRQ ECHO Nursing Home COVID-19 Action Network is extending through the end of August 2021. New registrants from assisted living facilities, adult day care, hospitals, and memory care centers are welcome as well as past attendees from completed cohorts. Attendance at a previous cohort is not required. This cohort has nineteen new weekly cohort sessions which begin on April 21st, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. The cohort meets every Wednesday.
We heard —and we listened from you how valuable the cohort sessions have been—how much you and your staffs benefited from being part of an ongoing learning community focused on stopping the spread of COVID-19 in nursing homes.
We will continue to be there for you. For this new round of cohort sessions, we are using a more flexible format and content focused on what's happening now in the field. Our 90-minute sessions will break down like this:
• Weekly COVID Synopsis – 5-10 minutes
• Content Refresher – 5-10 minutes
• Breakouts – 40-50 minutes
• Discussion and/or Optional Group Coaching – 30 minutes
• In addition, as your Training Center, we will offer 1-1 technical assistance and a deeper dive into resources, including outside sessions if needed.
MAHEC engages in evaluation activities to better understand the impact of our programs. By registering for this course, you agree that we may use your personal information in evaluative research regarding this program. Any reports published will be de-identified and reported in aggregate format.
