The purpose of this series of classes is to improve the skills of individuals who provide or wish to provide interpreter services in any language in health or human services settings. This two-day foundational Level 1 class is the first class in the Summer Medical Interpreter Series (see all dates below). Participants will learn the primary roles, ethics and techniques of professional interpreting. The importance of confidentiality issues is stressed throughout the training.

This series is offered in-person only in Summer 2026 (but if needed for infectious disease safety, may pivot to a blended format of home study elements and a short live webinar with the instructor at the conclusion of each class).

Note: Participants for Level 1 and/or the entire Summer Series must register by June 17, 2026 so that the Series course manual (included in the course fee) can be ordered in time; a $25 late fee applies to registration for Level 1 or the entire Series after June 10, 2026.

Note: Forty hours of medical interpreter training is one of the pre-requisites to take the National Medical Interpreter Certification Examination. The first four classes in this series, combined, fulfill this part of the requirement.
