Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics is an evidence-based, interprofessional, and multidisciplinary training program that equips the entire maternity care team with skills to effectively manage obstetric emergencies. This comprehensive course encourages a standardized team-based approach amongst physicians, residents, nurse midwives, registered nurses and other members of the maternity care team, to improve patient safety and positively impact maternal outcomes.

COURSE PRE-WORK
Learners will be provided an email with a link to the online portion of the ALSO® Provider Course. Content consists of a pre-test; approximately 8-hours of recorded lectures; online case studies; recorded workstation demonstrations; post-test; and a course evaluation. Upon completion of the evaluation and claiming of credit, the letter of participation will be accessible electronically.

The letter of participation must be provided to the Course Sponsor as proof of successful completion of the course pre-work PRIOR TO participation in the Live Portion of the course.

AAFP guidelines require that you complete the online version of this course and pass the post-test 48 hours in advance of attending the Live Course. In order to accommodate this requirement, process your registration and provide you with the link to the online portion in a timely manner, registration for this course will close at noon, Tuesday, January 2, 2026.

AFTER THE COURSE
Upon successful completion of the live course, the ALSO® Course Sponsor is responsible for providing post-course documentation to the ALSO® Program within 2 weeks. After the Course Sponsor has submitted all required post-course documentation, learners will be emailed letters of participation by the AAFP. For those who successfully complete both the online and the live portion of the course, wallet cards will be additionally included at the bottom of the emailed live course letter of participation.

Audience

This course is primarily directed toward maternity care providers including Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Certified Nurse Midwives; Residents; EMS; EMTs; and Paramedics.

MAHEC will not be providing credits for this course. Credits are awarded by outside agencies.

This Live activity, ALSO® Provider Course, with a beginning date of 01/06/26, has been reviewed and is pending approval for up to 7.75 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing Contact Hours 9.300

KSBN for Nurses - Participants must attend the entire activity to receive credit. MAHEC will not be providing credits for this course. Credits are awarded by outside agencies.

The American Academy of Family Physicians is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN). This course offering is approved for 9.3 contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, LPN, or LMHT relicensure. KSBN Provider Number; LT0278-0312. This is an advanced level course and may not be suitable for all general continuing nursing education.

Cancellation Policy

MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.

Unless otherwise noted in course materials, the following cancellation policy applies to all programs:

  • Cancellations must be in writing (fax, email, or mail).
  • Cancellations received more than 2 weeks prior to the event will receive 100% refund.
  • Cancellations received between two weeks and two full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than two full business days prior to the event.
  • No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
  • Transfers/substitute(s) are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program).
