Hoarding Disorder 101: Assessment and Treatment
Apr 24, 2023 Closed Mental Health

Description
Hoarding Disorder (HD) is a recently identified mental health condition with a prevalence rate of at least 2-5% among adults in the U.S. and Europe. It commonly co-occurs with depression, PTSD, and other anxiety disorders. Treatment seekers for these mental health conditions may simultaneously have HD. This workshop will introduce assessment, associated psychological factors, and current therapeutic approaches for HD, which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. The aim is for clinicians attending the training to have basic understanding and tools to start helping clients with hoarding.
The instructor, Chia-Ying Chou, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and director at the San Francisco Center for Compassion-Focused Therapies (SFCompassion), a group psychotherapy practice in California specializing in hoarding and other challenging mental health experiences. As a specialist in hoarding and trauma, Dr. Chou's clinical and research interest focus on the connection between difficult life experiences and the blocks and fears of letting go and letting in.
