Dr. Carol Coulson is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist. She specializes in providing care for women who are ’at risk’ and considering pregnancy or those who are already pregnant and ’high-risk’ or complicated for a variety of reasons. Dr. Coulson sees patients who are undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as comprehensive ultrasound, chorionic villus sampling, and genetic amniocentesis. She also consults on patients with medical and surgical disorders coincident with or prior to pregnancy including heart disease, chronic hypertension, diabetes and other endocrinologic disorders, kidney and gastrointestinal diseases, and infectious diseases. Otherwise healthy women who may require these services are those whose pregnancies are at markedly increased risk for adverse outcomes such as those with abnormal serum screens, multiple gestations, recurrent preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, or growth abnormalities of the fetus.

My name is Bhaskari Burra. I am excited to be starting my Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at MAHEC. I am a Texas native and grew up primarily in the Dallas area. From there, I attended Texas A&M University (Gig ‘Em!) where I received a BS in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Spanish (and an emphasis on medical Spanish). I then completed medical school at Texas Tech University. I finally left my Texas roots to complete my residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I developed a passion for addressing inequities in obstetric care. I am so excited to continue this work at MAHEC! It was clear during my interview that the entire department is committed to addressing health disparities amongst various underserved and underrepresented populations and I am thrilled to be a part of these efforts. After fellowship, I hope to pursue a career in academic medicine, with my clinical and research focus on inequalities in pregnancy care and obstetric critical care.
In my spare time, I enjoy working out on my Peloton, yoga, anything related to food, hiking, and spending time with my fiancé and our two cats, Evee and Gumbo. We are excited to be spending the next few years in the mountains and exploring all that Asheville and Western North Carolina have to offer.
Hi! I am Baillie and I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico where I was born, raised and completed undergrad and medical school before moving to Chicago for residency. I have a really cool dog named Donna who is a geriatric pitbull border collie mix. My hobbies include sleeping, heelying, and karaoke.
