To maintain one's skills as an effective facilitator, using today's technology, the instructor or faculty member must pursue continuing education and assessment of his/her facilitator skills. This program explores all aspects of the simulation experience...pre-briefing, writing goals, objectives, and a simulation-based scenario, undertaking experiential learning and debriefing. The learner will be responsible for writing simulation-based goals and objectives for a simulation. These objectives will be emailed to a Simulation Center educator. Following review of the goals and objectives, the learner will complete a fillable PDF Simulation Scenario template which will also be emailed to a Simulation Center educator.

Upon completion of the 6-hour online self study educational portion, the learner will then receive a link to participate in a Webex group simulation experience. During this educational session, a flipped classroom setting will be implemented. The learner will perform the role of the Simulation Instructor and will complete a pre-brief, watch their scenario played out with two Simulation Center staff members and then will complete a debrief on the scenario. Following the debrief, the learner will receive feedback from the Simulation Center staff regarding the scenario development and opportunities for improvement. This Webex portion will provide 30 minutes for each learner's scenario presentation and will be a total of 3-hours in length for the 6-person group. Using a group method allows all participating learners to acquire knowledge from one another. Following completion of the program evaluation, the participant will receive credit for both portions of this workshop. Participants will have 90 days from the date of their registration to complete this course. After that date, course materials will no longer be accessible.

The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) standards of best practice states that facilitation of a simulation-based experience requires an instructor or faculty member who has the education, skill, and ability to guide, support, and seek out ways to assist learners in achieving expected outcomes. The above statement is also supported by the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).

This program is in collaboration with and supported by the NC AHEC Program Office.
