This training focuses on the necessary role of perinatal substance exposure education (PSEED) in the perinatal substance use disorder (PSUD) team. The goal of this training will be to establish foundational knowledge to create and implement this role on an interdisciplinary or Tailored Care Management (TCM) team.
In this training, learners will explore how to navigate the various systems involved in PSUD treatment, including medical, obstetrical, and behavioral healthcare, substance use disorder care, the Department of Social Services, and the judicial system. Participants will learn about key partnerships to successfully perform PSEED for their patients and staff. Other subjects that will be reviewed include what constitutes evidence-based practice, what legislative standards impact patient populations, and how to educate patients on those standards. The instructors will discuss the scope of the role of the PSEED educator across the spectrum of perinatal care, from screening to postpartum.
