Description

This lecture/discussion-based CE will offer a 2-hour update on local anesthetics injection emergencies for dental hygienists who've completed the full multi-hour local anesthetics training and are certified to administer local anesthetic by infiltration and block methods. This class will fulfill the 2 hours for their maintenance CE*. Attend on-site at MAHEC or via live webinar.

*From NC SB 146....Dental hygienists who administer local anesthetics must maintain current CPR training and annually complete two hours of approved continuing education which shall include a review of local anesthetic technique, contraindications, systemic complications, medical emergencies related to local anesthesia, and a general overview of dental office emergencies. These hours may be among those chosen to satisfy the hours of continuing education otherwise required of licensed dental hygienists in this Article....

Target Audience

Dental Hygienists who've completed the full multi-hour local anesthesia training and are certified in NC to administer local anesthetic by infiltration and block methods

Objectives

At the conclusion of this lecture/discussion-based activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Review local anesthetic technique
  • List contraindications, systemic complications, and common medical emergencies that can occur with the use of local anesthesia
  • Describe strategies for prevention of emergencies that can occur with the use of local anesthesia
  • Identify emergency action plans related to use of local anesthesia, to ensure patient safety
