Resilience Focused Motivational Interviewing

Description

We became helping professionals because we want to help people. When people come to us in crisis, it is tempting to try and solve the problems which are causing them stress. However, when we jump ahead and tell people our solutions, they may feel judged, misunderstood, or defensive. The Community Resilience Model can help people self-regulate so they may move out of survival mode back into a space where they can thoughtfully explore options. We can then use Motivational Interviewing to partner with people, to help them identify their readiness, willingness, and ability to make meaningful changes in their lives. Together, we'll explore the blending of resiliency pauses with techniques to help people identify and illuminate their motivations, in order to help them become truly empowered to initiate positive life change. This process allows individuals to initiate change in order to meet their own goals, rather than trying to persuade them to change. Motivational Interviewing may be used to help people follow through with previously-set self-care strategies, while also helping them create plans they can implement to manifest their most cherished life goals.
