NC DHHS has developed partnerships with North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NC AHEC) to provide practice support, technical assistance, and continuing professional development to help Tailored Care Management providers who have applied and passed the desk review in the transition to Tailored Care Management. The TCM Continuing Professional Development programs are designed to assist TCM care managers, supervisors, and extenders with evidence-based practices in all treatment settings for the successful implementation of TCM.
In this session, family nurse practitioner Carriedelle Fusco will review best practices in the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) and how OUD treatment can be provided through Tailored Care Management. The program begins with an overview of the current state of the opioid overdose crisis on both a national and local level. Participants will gain knowledge on the CDC guidelines for the treatment of acute and chronic pain and the efficacy of non-opioid treatment modalities. The presentation outlines the origins of substance use disorders (SUDs) and the use of various medication-assisted therapies for the treatment of OUD specifically. Participants will also build an understanding of how healthcare providers can address the bias and stigma associated with substance use disorders. The program ends with a review of the Tailored Care Management model within NC Medicaid and how MOUD can be implemented as a treatment tool for care managers.
