Clinical Spanish and Hispanic Culture

Description

Establishing a rapport with the patient is crucial to the success of the medical appointment. When a language or cultural barrier exists, the health and comfort of the patient can be compromised. This workshop is designed to give the healthcare provider the information about a patient's condition. Participants will learn basic phrases to greet a patient, ask pertinent questions, and complete a patient history. Cultural information will also be presented to aid effective communication with the Hispanic population.

PRECOURSE ASSIGNMENT

This class will incorporate "flipped learning." Class materials will be supplied to registered participants prior to the class; the expectation is that the participant take at least 30 minutes to review basic information prior to the live class, for full credit.

REGISTRATION CLOSES JANUARY 15, 2025 TO ALLOW TIME FOR THE PRE-CLASS SELF-STUDY.

Note: This class is planned to be a blend of pre-class self-study and a live class which can be attended either on-site at MAHEC Education in Asheville or via live webinar. However, the live class may need to pivot to all- virtual attendance, depending on COVID-19 and/or weather. Interested virtual participants must have adequate technology to participate fully in virtual audio and video interaction with the instructors, with reliable internet in their home or work office.

Snow Date: January 29, 2025
