6th Annual Statewide AHEC Celebration of Rural Nursing Conference: Care Across the Lifespan

This conference, via live webinar, is designed for nurses who are serving vulnerable populations in the underserved and rural areas. Content experts will discuss topics relevant to rural health disparities across the life spectrum. Nurses will be able to learn about and apply an evidence-based Rural Health Framework for assessing unique rural health issues in the communities they serve.
Building on the 2022 Annual Celebration of Rural Nursing, this year's conference will focus on key topics that cover demographics from the infant to end-of-life healthcare spectrum for each generation. Content experts will discuss topics relevant to prevention and compassionate care for rural health disparities across the lifecycle.
Program education topics will include:
Infant mortality
Adverse childhood experiences (ACES)
Suicide prevention for youth and adults
Advanced care directives
Hospice & palliative care
Based on an integrated-approach curriculum design for our 2023 conference, nurses will be able to learn more about applying the evidence-based 2022 Rural Health Framework for assessing unique rural health issues in the communities they serve for each generation and topic throughout the program agenda.
This program is jointly provided by all nine AHECs and supported by NC AHEC Nurse Council.

Target Audience
This conference is designed for registered nurses, advance practice providers, and licensed practical nurses practicing in rural areas or who are interested in learning more about this area of healthcare.
Objectives
- Apply the evidence-based 2022 Rural Health Framework for assessing unique rural health issues across the lifespan in the communities that they serve based on an integrated-approach curriculum design for the 2023 conference.
- Define the role and scope of the End-of-Life Doula in the rural setting especially related to advance care planning in the realms of legal paperwork, after-death care, legacy, emotional, and spiritual directives.
