The 2024 School Nurse Clinical Competency workshop is designed for both novice and experienced school nurses seeking to enhance their competencies and stay up to date on the latest developments in the field of school health.
The workshop will offer a combination of interactive presentations, simulation, case studies, and group discussions. School nurses will have the opportunity to engage with content experts, share best practices, and most importantly learn from and network with peers. The workshop will include guest speakers from relevant fields and practical demonstrations to reinforce learning.

Target Audience
School Nurses, School Nurse Administration, Teachers, and School-Based Behavioral Health Therapists
Objectives
- Self-Assess a gain in knowledge of best practices related to substance use, dental health emergencies, and orthopedic injuries in students
- Demonstrate skills in identifying various skin conditions, evaluation of abdominal pain, assessment and treatment of common cardiac conditions, evaluation of the upper respiratory system, and construct condition-specific emergency response actions
- Demonstrate skills commonly required of school nurses in a safe and controlled environment receiving immediate feedback from facilitators and peers
- Exchange best practices with colleagues from different schools and districts
- Formulate appropriate nursing interventions for students with cystic fibrosis and develop an individualized care plan
