This workshop is designed for Nurse Practitioners in primary or urgent care, Physician Assistants, and Family Medicine and Rural Emergency Room Providers with limited exposure to suturing and who desire to be more knowledgeable in best practices and in common office procedures/skills, be more marketable, and affect patient outcomes.
The Basic Suturing Workshop (morning session) covers instrument basics such as suture types and selection, proper loading of the needle, wound assessment, local anesthesia, aftercare, and documentation. Using didactic sessions, demonstrations, animal tissue, and simulation models, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate basic suturing techniques. All supplies will be provided for the workshop. Enrollment is limited in order to optimize the learning experience.
The Advanced Suturing Workshop (afternoon session) is designed for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Family Medicine and Rural Emergency Room Providers who are proficient in performing simple interrupted sutures and who wish to build on their skills. This workshop will provide the opportunity to practice subcuticular running, horizontal mattress, corner stitch, buried stitch, and securing tubes. All supplies are provided for the workshop. Enrollment is limited in order to optimize the learning experience.
Regardless of your level of experience with wound closure and care, these workshops will enhance your skill set in the areas of suturing, gluing, managing simple to complex lacerations, when to seek surgical consultation, how to deal with animal bites, when not to close a wound, and much more.

Objectives
- Discuss the components in the assessment and evaluation of minor to moderately complex lacerations
- Discuss the treatment options of minor to moderately complex lacerations, including non-invasive wound adherence products
- Identify different suture materials and needles
- Describe suture after care
- Describe, demonstrate and practice invasive and non-invasive wound closure techniques
