AI tools are being used more often in cancer care, but there are few agreed-upon processes for making sure they are used ethically.
In this session, Dr. Ami Palmer, clinical ethicist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, will lead a discussion of Hantel et al.'s framework for deploying AI in oncology. The article describes ethical concerns such as bias in the data used to build AI tools, patient privacy, patient autonomy, and predictions that cannot be explained.
It also proposes a process framework, A4R-OAI, to address them. We will discuss how these concerns and the framework apply to adolescent and young adult patients with cancer.
