Recognizing that trauma remains the leading cause of death in children, the conference will bring together representatives from North Carolina's four Pediatric Trauma Centers. These centers are dedicated to delivering cutting-edge care for injured children. Each trauma program offers a range of multidisciplinary services, ensuring that injured children and their families receive the highest level of treatment and support. The conference will highlight the continuum of care for children who have experienced traumatic injuries, encompassing evaluation, stabilization, treatment, and ongoing care.

Throughout this conference, attendees will explore the full continuum of care for pediatric trauma patients, from initial evaluation and stabilization to treatment and long-term rehabilitation. By sharing expertise and best practices, we aim to strengthen multidisciplinary services that help restore children and their families to the highest possible quality of life after injury.

Audience

MDs, DOs, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and others working in pediatric trauma or are interested in the topic

Objectives

Participants will:

check Identify the signs of drowning and near drowning in pediatric patients
check Recognize the impact of trauma on child development and behavior
check Understand the importance of clear and compassionate communication with families
check Identify key stakeholders in pediatric trauma care including hospitals and emergency services
check Identify risk factors and protective factors related to child abuse
check Develop skills to deliver bad news sensitively and empathetically
check Learn ways to enhance coping strategies for teaching children how to use music for self-soothing during distress
check Develop standardized protocols for trauma assessment and management in children

    Cancellation Policy

    MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.

    Unless otherwise noted in course materials, the following cancellation policy applies to all programs:

    • Cancellations must be in writing (fax, email, or mail).
    • Cancellations received more than two weeks prior to the event will receive 100% refund.
    • Cancellations received between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
    • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.
    • No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
    • Transfers/substitute(s) are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program).
