The American Heart Saver Heartsaver Total course is a live, in-person class that teaches everyday people how to respond in the first few minutes of a medical emergency before professional help arrives.

This course includes basic first aid for injuries, choking, and other common emergencies. It covers hands-on CPR skills for adults, children, and infants, along with how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) to help restart a heart in cardiac arrest.

By the end, participants earn a certification card and leave with the confidence and hands-on practice to act quickly and correctly when someone's life is on the line. This course is designed to meet Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and other regulatory agencies' requirements. Organizations can request agendas targeted at specific occupational needs, and classes can be taught on site by request for an additional fee.

Community members interested in CPR and first aid for themselves, their families, and business employees

Objectives

check CPR Skill Demonstration: By the end of the course, participants will correctly perform hands-on CPR (proper hand placement, compression depth, and rate of 100-120 per minute) on a training manikin for adults, children, and infants, as assessed by the instructor during in-class practice
check First Aid Response: By course completion, participants will identify and demonstrate proper first aid steps (such as controlling bleeding, treating for choking, and recognizing signs of a stroke or cardiac emergency) for at least 3 common emergency scenarios presented during class exercises, meeting the AHA's certification criteria
check AED Application: In the course, participants will demonstrate the ability to power on, apply pads correctly, and safely operate an AED on a training device in under 90 seconds, following the prompts without instructor assistance

    Cancellation Policy

    MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without accompanying payment will not be processed and participants who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the program.

    Unless otherwise noted in course materials, the following cancellation policy applies to all programs:

    • Cancellations must be in writing (fax, email, or mail).
    • Cancellations received more than two weeks prior to the event will receive 100% refund.
    • Cancellations received between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee.
    • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than five full business days prior to the event.
    • No vouchers will be issued in lieu of a refund.
    • Transfers/substitute(s) are welcome (please notify us in advance of the program).
