Our clinic for older adolescents and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) is located at MAHEC Family Health Center at Biltmore and MAHEC Health Center at Cullowhee. The clinic is for patients new to MAHEC or patients who are established at MAHEC.
At the clinic, you will receive:
Please note that our clinic cannot provide formal I/DD diagnoses.
Your care team may include 1-2 physicians, a medical assistant, pharmacist, dietitian, and/or Vaya Health nurse navigator or care manager. Vaya Health works closely with MAHEC’s I/DD team to create a care plan. They are the local managed entity/managed care organization that manages Medicaid services for people with I/DD in Western North Carolina.

The I/DD clinic accepts referrals from non-MAHEC doctors for one-time assessments. You can keep your usual primary care provider. We offer in-person and video visits.
After the assessment, the team will make recommendations to your primary care doctor and make recommendations for your continued care. If you do not have a primary care provider we will refer you to one.
