Olivia Pantano is originally from Massachusetts but has spent nearly a decade in the Southeast. She attended the Emory School of Medicine Physician Assistant program and returned to Western North Carolina after graduation. Olivia strives to provide comprehensive and thoughtful care for her patients. Outside of seeing patients, you will find her on her bicycle or running with her dogs on trails around Asheville.

Our team offers full service primary care for all ages including pediatric, adult, obstetric, and geriatric patients. The Cane Creek team is currently accepting new patients and would love to care for you and your family!

Olivia Caron is a clinical pharmacist at MAHEC who works with chronic disease management including substance use, hepatitis C, diabetes, and more. She strives to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to all her patients and loves working with the Spanish-speaking community as she speaks both Spanish and French. She also serves as Project CARA’s Director of Research. Olivia was born and raised in Northern Virginia as the youngest of four kids born to Belgian parents. She studied chemical engineering and Spanish at Virginia Tech and then attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy where she graduated with her Certificate of Aging and Doctorate of Pharmacy.

I provide full-spectrum family medicine to the local community, strive to teach our resident physicians small practice practicalities and survival skills, and inspire the community to be healthful. My interests inside of medicine include international work, integrative medicine, chronic disease management, low risk obstetrics, office procedures including vasectomy, resident and medical student education, nutrition and exercise as medicine, inpatient medicine, work/life balance, Latino outreach, and advanced care planning for end-of-life discussions.

Dr. Gilmer is a compassionate physician who enjoys practicing full-spectrum family medicine including pediatrics, prenatal care, ultrasound, and hospital medicine. He has been at MAHEC’s Cane Creek practice since 2009 and is passionate about advocating for rural and global health disparities. He has worked extensively in France, Central and South America, and West Africa bringing a wholistic approach to his patients. Dr. Gilmer loves to teach and is committed to advancing medical education, interprofessional collaboration, and inspiring students to pursue rural health. His advocacy work currently focuses on bringing media attention to the social injustice of mass incarceration and the intersection of mental illness. He enjoys writing (The Other Dr. Gilmer) and speaking about the importance of advocacy in medicine.

Angela is a family nurse practitioner who cherishes connections with her patients. She appreciates the complexity and uniqueness of each person. She enjoys a collaborative approach, seeking patients’ input into their care plans. She is passionate about meeting her patients wherever they are in their health journey and enthusiastically empowers them to take an active role in their healthcare decisions. Angela is particularly interested in chronic disease management and lifestyle modifications that offer her patients tools for meaningful, life-long changes. Angela also appreciates end-of-life planning and is dedicated to honoring her patients' health goals and wishes throughout their entire lifespan. Her patients often share feelings of being heard and supported.
