Student Housing

The Office of Regional Primary Care Education at MAHEC provides and coordinates housing in Western North Carolina for health professions students.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, housing is extremely limited. Please apply as soon as possible.

First preference is given to health professions students from schools affiliated with the NC AHEC Program. Please note that housing is limited and is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Housing in the Asheville/Hendersonville Area

MAHEC maintains seven apartments in Asheville and one in Hendersonville. Our Asheville units sleep 2-4 people with a full kitchen and one full bath. All beds are single beds and most rooms have two beds. Depending on our schedule, you may have one or more roommates. Students must provide their own bedding and towels. All apartments, except for the Hendersonville unit, are single gender. Room reservations begin the day before your rotation starts.

A non-refundable $50 deposit is required for all non-NC AHEC affiliated and out-of-state students in order to secure a reservation; this deposit will be applied to the total amount owed.

Please contact Lisa Ogle in the MAHEC Facilities Department at or 828-257-4427 for housing information, availability, and rates.

Housing outside of Asheville/Hendersonville

Step 1:

Students must complete an online housing application. All requests for AHEC student housing must be made through the statewide MyAHEC website. This site will instruct you to create an online account and you can select the AHEC region(s) where you need housing. This process requires students to apply for their own housing; a school/course coordinator cannot apply for housing on a student's behalf.

Step 2:

Requests will be reviewed, and students will be contacted and asked to complete a Housing Agreement Form. This agreement outlines our rules and regulations and represents a contract between the student and MAHEC. Students will be instructed to send in a deposit to secure their room, if needed. Forms and payment must be submitted as soon as possible after the rotation assignment has been confirmed.

Step 3:

Once these initial steps are completed, students will be sent additional information that will include directions, maps, and other important instructions.

Please note that housing is through private housing providers who are affiliated with MAHEC. For our NC AHEC Program-affiliated schools, the current rate is $7 per night. Students from non-affiliated schools are charged $25 per night. If you have any questions, please e-mail the ORPCE Program Coordinator, Jasmine Wood, at or call 828-407-2599.
