Welcome to the MAHEC Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship! We are excited to have you as part of our family here in Asheville, NC.
Asheville is an amazing place full of adventure and excitement. The opportunities are endless, from great food and culture, to whitewater rafting and mountain biking. Nestled in the heart of Western North Carolina, you’ll be primed to interact with people and athletes of all walks of life.
This year will ultimately shape what you do professionally for the remainder of your career. After the completion of this year you will be sought after for your skills and placed in high regard among your colleagues. You will have the skill set of a specialist while maintaining and furthering the primary care passion that got you to this point. Whether your future involves working in a primary care setting integrating sports and musculoskeletal care across your patient population, being an academician, becoming a team physician for a professional team, or working in an orthopaedic office as a non-operative orthopaedist, you will develop the comfort and tools to get you where you want to go.
Our vision is to be a leader in primary care, sports medicine and musculoskeletal care while being advocates for our patients and educators to the community. As fellows you will have the opportunity to work in the academic and private sectors, gleaning information from a variety of primary care, orthopaedic, and healthcare professionals. You will work on every level of athletics covering professional sports with the Asheville Tourists Minor League Baseball club, high level Division I collegiate athletics with UNC-Asheville and Western Carolina University, Division II athletics with Mars Hill University, Division III athletics with Warren Wilson College, semi-professional exposure with Asheville Rugby Club, and high school sports with various local teams. This will be a challenging year, jammed full with academic rigor and responsibilities to further your education; however, my goals for you are the following:
Work Hard | Seek Balance | Provide Feedback
This will be an outstanding year and I can’t wait to have you join us here in Asheville. Remember, vocation is where your greatest passion meets the world's greatest need.
Welcome to the family!
