DescriptionThis intensive workshop is designed for Advanced Practice Providers, Nurses, EMS/EMT, Paramedics, medical students and EKG technicians to review the basic concepts of cardiac electrophysiology and EKG assessment and interpretation. Learners will review pertinent medical terminology and then learn various techniques to differentiate cardiac rhythm strips. Learners will have the opportunity to practice and perfect their skills in a simulation based educational setting.
This one day course is split into two main concentrations. The morning session focus is on Basic EKG and putting it all together using simulation. In the afternoon, the focus is on 12-Lead EKG interpretation for acute and critical care nurses, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, EMS/EMT, Paramedics, and other learners who need to be able to interpret an EKG in their clinical practice. Content includes anatomy of a 12-Lead EKG, how leads record electrical activity traveling through the heart, normal waveforms and intervals and how each lead should look on a normal EKG. Additional content includes an easy way to determine the QRS axis and its clinical implications; recognition of right and left bundle branch blocks; and EKG criteria for recognizing myocardial ischemia, injury and infarction.
Attendees have the option of attending the Basic EKG focused morning session only, the 12-Lead EKG interpretation afternoon session only, or the full day EKG workshop.
