Our History
In 2024, MAHEC is celebrating 50 years of serving Western North Carolina! Our mission-driven nonprofit has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our mountain residents since its start in 1974.
Throughout the year we’ll look back at MAHEC’s incredible growth, from humble beginnings as a small group of visionaries five decades ago to a nationally recognized organization with more than 1,100 highly qualified and compassionate individuals working to recruit, train, and retain the region’s healthcare workforce.
We’re thrilled to commemorate this milestone and invite you to watch this space as we honor the past and prepare for the next 50 years of improving access to care today while building the healthcare workforce of tomorrow.
