Applicants must have satisfactorily completed a Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatric, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or ER residency program, have DEA certification and be eligible to obtain a license to practice medicine in North Carolina through the N.C. Medical Board. Additionally, MAHEC requires a full copy of applicant’s medical school degree, current licensure information, 3-letters of recommendation including one from their residency program director, a personal statement, and an onsite interview in Asheville.

Sports Medicine Elective (RESIDENTS ONLY)
The MAHEC Primary Care Sports Medicine Elective is a 2-4 week elective throughout the calendar year for Family Medicine, Pediatric, Emergency, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Internal Medicine residents interested in developing their skills in preparation for a future primary care sports medicine fellowship position. The elective is highly competitive with only a limited number of spots available each year. Please apply early to allow paperwork to be processed.
